چکیده

Abstract Aim Major trauma to the limbs often results in amputation and can have a debilitating effect on an individual’s physical psychological health. Currently, conventional management remediate consequences of limb is Traditional Socket-mounted Prosthesis (TSP) for affected limbs. However, its use associated with various complications, such as skin ulcers, increased fracture risk, nerve pain, heterotopic ossification. To address this, novel approach known osseointegration; procedure which artificial implant surgically integrated anchored into residual bone, has been developed. This narrative review aims primarily evaluate efficacy functional outcomes lower osseointegration compared TSP. Method A literature was performed identify analyse studies addressing efficacy, outcomes, complications prosthesis Studies were summarised according type prosthesis, number surgeries required, location. Data patients osseointegrated extracted. Results Six chosen critical analysis primary secondary aims. All reported conferred significant improvements mobility, walking capability, speed, quality life, comfortability, prosthetic control, use. Complications mild infection, phantom pain periprosthetic fractures although incidences rare. Conclusions Osseointegration shown increase use, improve confidence, ability, mobility. are easily treated. Overall, there sufficient evidence suggest could become standard lower-limb amputations.
